Hazrat Inayat Khan
A tribute to Murshid.
In the 1990s I visited the Dagar of Hazrat Inayat in the Lodi tombs area of Delhi. There was a celebration in honour of the saints life with followers from his Dutch community.
I attended kawal music by his beautiful tomb and bought some books from his translated lectures.
Then I later read a biography on his life. In particular the "Mysticism of sound" book affected me.
Being a musician of Indian music I felt close to Murshid as he was a student of the Baroda Gharana of school of classical music.
Murshid was foremost a musician but he also was a seeker of Allah and his mystical journey took him to the west where he sowed the seeds of Sufism.
Later in 2010 approximately I was in Ajmer Rajastan and was able to visit the Mohomed Chisti Mosque, the most famous Sufi temple in India and I listened to Qawal singers there.

It was an instant hit and Nusrat Sahib’s voice became an instant sensation is India and all over the world. Lyrics
Ankhain Neechay Hoyeen To Haya Ban Gayeen
Ankhain Oonchee Hoyeen To Dua Ban Gayeen
Ankhain Uth Kar Jhakeen Too Adaa Ban Gayeen
Ankhain Jhuk Kar Utheen To Qazaa Ban Gayeen
As Beloved Eyes lowered, they became modesty
As Eyes raised, they became a prayer
As raised eyes lowered, they became a charm
As lowered eyes rose, they became apocalypse
