As Lash remarked to Tim Boucher on the Pop Occulture Blog, "In my work and writings I strike a path toward the experiential sources of religious and mystical experience, the root factors."

In The Spirit of Tai-Chi: Essential Principles, Lash examines the spiritual lessons of the ancient Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu. Library Journal contributor Graham Christian called the work "a welcome and sensible addition to the library of Western interpretations of Eastern practices." In Not in His Image: Gnostic Vision, Sacred Ecology, and the Future of Belief, "an eclectic mix of mythology, deep ecology, Tibetan Buddhism, astrology, UFO research, drug mysticism, and speculative science," according to Library Journal critic Charles Seymour, Lash contends that the Sophianic vision of the Gnostics provides an alternative to oppressive contemporary religions. As Lash told Boucher, "I was drawn to the Gnostic message by a series of clues that life presented to me from the age of sixteen, leading to a long-term quest. My commitment to this message has deepened in recent years as I have come to understand the terminal insanity of human belief systems."

Bhakti Love and the power of the realized

Sometimes you get a podcast or a conversation that stops you in your tracks and you think and think over and over what was said for days and months, not all the time but quietly at the back of your mind.

I was listening to Tapestry on CBC radio and heard Krishna Das a devotee of Neem Keroli Baba. Ram Das was his student too and wrote a very nice book of  stories from the followers  "The Miracle of Love'.

Miracle of Love; PDF

I had read this book whilst in Rishikesh in the 1990's in an ashram by the Ganges and was transfixed by the stories in it of how peoples lives were swept away and healed by the wizardry of Baba.

This podcast by Krishna Das is one such journey and all I can say is that I know how this magic works as it also shaped me and my amazing journey through life after I met my teacher 'Maharaj'.
Life will never be athe same again when one surrenders to the power of love.

Mantra bajaan ; Jai Guru

A devotional mantra to the guru.

Ammachi
Image of Anandamaya or Amma

I visited her beautiful ashram in Kerala in 2000 amongst the canals and coconut palms.  In the evenings her bajaan music wafted among the waves of the sea and the heat of the tropics.

Guru - dispeller of darkness

1806, gooroo, from Hindi guru "teacher, priest," from Sanskrit guru-s "one to be honored, teacher," from guru- "venerable, worthy of honor," literally "heavy, weighty," from PIE root *gwere- (2) "heavy" (see grave (adj.)). see translation

Mantra bajaan ; Ek Onkar Sat Nam

This is the principal mantra from Baba Virsah Singh to his followers.

IK ONKAR SAT NAM SIRE WAHE GURU

Translation;
One God whose name is truth , unspeakably wonderful Master of both light and darkness.

See Gobindsadan.org for more.

Music, tabla and harmonium by Gerard Menzel

The fire is called a 'haven' where the mantras and prayers are sung and recited by. The haven or agni in yoga is the sacred place of Lord Shiva place of (life and death smarshan) hence smarshan ghat ; a place on the Ganves R. where lord shivas sacred burning pyre is.  This represents the transformational process of life death and creation. See my other bajaans on Shiva.

This mantra used daily throughout your life will make ones soul peaceful.

Consciousness and awakening

 Speakers Rick Archer and Shunyamurti from Buddha at the Gas pump

A description of ;

* awakening
* illumination
* enlightenment

Comment
Nowadays it has become fashionable to say you are enlightened or have reached some sort of realization. This is due to the  the commercialization of yoga all over the world.

In the past one would never pronounce ones positioning spiritually because it would have been seen as a self promotion.

I go with this maxim, if somebody is telling you they have reached a goal then they probably have a bit more to go.

If you can feel somebody is 'beyond the shore' your either pretty close or there too. If you have to think first then your definitively still got some work to do.

Realization is not something that is easy to put into words by its very nature because words are only a description of something not the real product itself. In the decryption of the word and the reality then lots get lost in mental translation.

Reality ought to be felt from the full body, gut, heart and spiritual self.

Padmasambhava and Tibetan Yogis

Guru Rimpoche Padmasambhava

 Mantras

1. OM AH HUM  BENZA GURU PEME SIDDHE HUM

2. OM AH HUM  VAJRA GURU PADME SIDDHE HUM

Some years ago I lived in India in Dharamsala before it became a great tourist centre 1982 around and I was studying tabla with guruji Dhasbandu Sharma and taking lectures at the Tibetan library and trying to learn Tibetan language.

It was a great time in my life and many things happened.
I had a little routine going, Tai Chi practice in the Himalayan foothills, Tabla lesson Tibetan Buddhist lecture then Lunch in the Dharamsala upside streets ( usually parathas like an indian style pizza or a veg pancake fritter)

On the off days I would go for a walk in the hills above the tree line almost where I could see Triund mountain, the highest place around. The beautiful mountain pines like old sages talking to me along the rocky tracks.  Often I would drop into an old Tibetan womans shack where she sold sly Tibetan jung or barley beer.  Whooo!!!!! that stuff packed a punch and was like jet fuel for the walk.

Later in 2006 after working in Saudi Arabia I took some time to visit Darjeeling again 30 years after I had been there before and I managed to stay at the YHA on the hill for some of the time just like my first visit.  I met the manager who was still the same guy and the place was still as sparse and hadn't had a coat of paint since I was there in '82.

In Sikkim I went to Gangtok and then east and north to the Chinese border for a day then went inland to a few monasteries in particular Pemayangste. Some of the tantric tanka paintings were breathtakingly beautiful.

You have to walk up the mountain to get to Pemayangste but its etheric when you arrive. There is a special feeling in the air there that only walkers and dharma bums experience.

The Meaning Of Guru Padmasambhava Mantra

  • Om is the seed syllable of the crown chakra.
  • Ah is the seed syllable of the vishuddha (throat) chakra.
  • Hum is the seed syllable of the heart center.
  • Benza means diamond-tine awareness.
  • Guru means spiritual teacher.
  • Padme means lotus.
  • Siddhi means extraordinary power.
  • Hum means the primordial luminosity of all things.

Krishna devotional singing

Krishna is one of the most popular dieties in India. It is the focus of devotional Yoga followers.  In 2006 I was fortunate to be able to play tabla in the Muscat Krishna temple with Kanhaialal the resident singer, daily.  Bajaan devotional music is one of the most profound ways to open up your heart to the universe.  The breath opens and the vibration of the voice with the power of the seed syllable of the mantra work to free your consciousness in a master,y way.

Here is a link to Jagjit Singh singing Jai Radha Mahadeva, one of my favourite bajaans.
